The Slate Room was an interesting project initiated by an existing client, looking for a new investment project. We really wanted to deliver and transform the space to suit the brief, which was to give the existing dated and run down interior of an existing pool hall a new-refreshed look in a nondescript 70’s building. The project had many considerations from longevity of the interior design through to durability of the furniture and finishes. So, having never done a pool room before we decided it was time to call in an expert in design. We enlisted the help of Auckland architect Jose Guiterrez. Jose was able to transform this run down space and with the use of lighting and a complete redesign. His main concept was to emphasise the act of playing pool as a performance in itself, and to make the pool tables the focus of the space. All natural daylight from the existing windows was blocked out and artificial light selectively introduced. Office Interiors worked along side Jose to custom build all the elevated built in seating, the bar leaner’s, bar stools curtains and new bar area.
